Ethyl acetate is the ester of ethanol and acetic acid, it is manufactured on a large scale for use as a solvent. It is colourless liquid has a characteristic sweet smell and is used in glues, nail polish removers, decaffeinating tea and coffee.

Applications:

As a solvent in production of adhesives, fingernail polishes; extraction solvent in production of pharmaceuticals and foods; carrier solvent for herbicides; component of lacquer thinner.
