Acetic Acid is a clear, colourless liquid with a strong odor of vinegar. It is corrosive to metals and tissue. It is a synthetic carboxylic acid with antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Applications:

The major use of acetic acid is the production of ‘Vinyl Acetate Monomer’ (VCM).
In the manufacturing of ethyl acetate, isobutyl acetate, propyl acetate, which are used as a solvent in inks, paints and coatings. Used as a solvent in nitration reactions. As a solvent in brominations.
It is used as a coagulant in the production of rubber. Used in the manufacture of rayon fiber.
Used in the manufacture of dyestuffs, coatings and perfumes. Used in the manufacture of ‘purified terephthalic acid (PTA), acetates, monochloro acetic acid’, etc.
It is used in the textile industries for textile processing and printing. It is used for making white lead which is used as a white paint.
