Chloroform is a colourless organic compound, sweet-smelling, dense liquid. It is produced on a large scale as a precursor to PEFE. It is also a precursor to various refrigerants.

Applications:

Chloroform is used in pesticide formulations, as a solvent for fat, rubber, waxes, oils and resins.
In fire extinguishers, as a cleaning agent and in rubber industries.
In the production of refrigerant Freon. As a solvent in pharmaceutical industries and for producing dyes. In the production of dichlorocarbene (CCl2)
